FOCUS ON THE COMFORTER

1 Corinthians 1:3–4 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

If one’s faith must grow, it must start little. Everything good and wonderful demands time and preparation. If something big starts big, it calls for concern. This is why Jesus was not bothered when Nicodemus came to Him at night (John 3:1–3). He knew that if one’s faith must grow, it must start little. If satan reminds you of your past failures, don’t hesitate to remind him of God’s promises to you in the Holy Scriptures. The Word of God dwells in your present and future. Many of us talk about our battles instead of the One who is fighting for us. People focus on their enemies instead of their Comforter. Today, we respond to reason instead of the Word of God. Acting on the Word is letting Christ act through you. Acting on the Word gives you an opportunity. No matter how we master the Scriptures without acting on it and without true obedience to what we read, we will still remain spiritual babies.

When we obey the Word of God that is spoken by the Holy Spirit, we will grow and mature in times of conflict and suffering, because trials are the soil in which faith flourishes. As the Word dominates your mouth, one day it will pay off, for the Spirit will bring it to your heart. This will help you to discuss the One who is fighting for you instead of your battle. It will help you to discuss your faith instead of your doubts. It will help you to focus on your Comforter instead of your enemy. Remember, the Word takes the place of the unseen Christ. The Word becomes a part of you by meditation.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to focus on You alone, in Jesus’ mighty name! Amen!
