“Follow your desires!”, is a message we often hear in today’s culture. It’s promoted all over social media, television, movies, music… They say if we just listen to our fleshly wants, we will find joy and contentment. But we know different!
In 𝐉𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚𝐡 𝟏𝟕:𝟗, the Bible says, “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝, 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭?” We must therefore be careful not to base important decisions on only what we crave for. Our desires can be temporal and misleading, and they might eventually drag us far away from God’s will. This is why we should not rely on them, but we should allow God’s Spirit to open our eyes, so that we will not become greedy. Surely, God is willing to give us all we need, but He may not give us all we want, because man’s needs are unlimited.
Fortunately, God does not abandon us in our struggles with harmful or sinful tendencies. Instead, He provides us the grace and strength we need to resist sin when it crouches at the door of our hearts through the Holy Spirit. But we have our own role to play! By exposing ourselves to the Word of God, our mind can be renewed and transformed. When this happens, our desires will also be influenced positively – so much so that there will be no room for what the flesh chases after!
It is essential to remember that our Father in the Heavens knows what we need better than us. He wants us to feel satisfied, but we will never truly be that without obeying to His will, simply because we are made in His image. So, do you want a better life? Start prioritising God’s will above all!
🙏Prayer: “Lord, guide my heart so that it wants what You want. May Your will become my will. May Your desires for me and my life enter my heart, so that I might receive Your joy, in Jesus’ name, amen!”
